#8 Falling Beyond

Assalamualaikum (May Peace Be upon You)

Post 8 : Falling Beyond

Today I wanted to write a (lame) review on Shingeki No Kyojin (Isayama Hajime) spin-off OVAs ; Kuinaki Sentaku (A choice With No Regret / ACWNR).

Warning: This May contain spoilers
This OVAs is an adpatation from a spin-off manga by Suruga Hikaru (Artist) and Sunaaku Gan (Author) which was later made canon / official. The first part of the OVA was released last year and the part 2 was released just recently.
This is a spin-off story featuring two famous characters from the original series; Levi and Erwin Smith.
This OVAs tell the story of their first encounter in which neither two were in a good term with each other especially Levi , who could not see what Erwin see and seek for that Levi was a resident of the underground city , a city filled with criminals, unwanted people ," garbage" the capital say and all he care about is his friends.

Before watching , I read the manga and it was good. Levi seem as usual, cool, though you could tell there were something different about him. Yes, after all time and experience changes people. The mangakas did a great job in maintaining some orders of the original series and the plot was well written.
Reading the mangas , I felt very emotional because I knew what would happen.
At the last chapter , the part where Levi's friend , namely Isabel and Farlan died was just so dramatic (especially Isabel, the way she died while calling out "Big Brother" sent my tears rolling down).
I didn't expect to cry , really! Mainly because I already knew THAT was going to happen but still it was so upsetting. Seeing Levi go Berserk after that killing more than one titans at one go made my heart breaks . To be honest, I didn't cry when Levi Squad in the original series (Petra and gang) died but when I read ACWNR , flashes of those scenes came and made me cry more. That was the moment I understood the title and Levi's famous words , "I  wouldn't know whether those choices are right...(yeah you know it!)".

So continuing on the OVAs. The first part was fine , The chasing between Erwin and Levi is so awesome. The second part , well I could only say I expected too much from it. As an OVA , it is obvious not all scenes would be the same eg. the number of titans that Levi fight at the end was reduced mainly because I think it's reasonable *laughs* . I still wish that dramatic "anikii!" moment would be included (But of course this wasn't done mainly because in the OVA , Isabel came in later on her own while in the manga , Levi saved the little Isabel from starvation and thus form their aniki-bond which would be deeper I suppose than in the OVA . Nevertheless, I am so jealous that you , Isabel ,got a head ruffle from Levi!!) .
Instead there were no scenes on how Farlan and Isabel died which would left audience wondering in horror because the battle field (whatev) filled with dead bodies was a horrifying sight which then add more after Levi fought the titan . It was a blood-filled scenes and alot of rage.I was also disappointed that Sayram (a character from the manga , a guy that always pick on Isabel) didn't exist in the OVA. I was looking forward to him. Lastly Erwin did not appear that much and even if he does he seems so cold *brrrr* and I was like "go take him down,". Don't get me wrong , I do get why he did what he did . It's just that it lacks explanation/he did not explain himself fully just like he did in the manga. In the OVA he only said things about Lovoff and things like "Levi humanity needs you" (oh there were a few cool lines "If you begin to regret, you'll dull your future decisions and let others make your choices for you. All that's left for you then is to die. Nobody can foretell the outcome. Each decision you make holds meaning only by affecting your next decision." ) and that, oddly, made Levi obey. No thoughts on Levi part. Like they did not show what he felt about titans or humanity and stuff . All I saw was that he just agreed and wanted to see what Erwin see. In the manga , his thoughts were portrayed well . His doubts were visible and Erwin words at the last were convincing that I was convinced that Levi is convinced that fighting for humanity is the right thing *laughs*. Erwin managed to convince Levi that he wasn't the cause of his friends death but instead it was the titan and well, that is pretty convincing to persuade a person to join hands  with him for the sake of humanity.

All in All it was fine. It's just a past and the main part was shown clearly so that was all that matters. Animation improved and this made me excited for the second season! I suggest those who had watched the OVA and didn't make any plan for the manga to make a room for it!
There are extra stories which I found so hilarious and there were some cute scenes between Isabel and her aniki , Levi .(BTW aniki is another word for big brother other than the common onii-chan).

Done that.

Earlier I have watched Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Movie 3 : Rebellion, finally! I could only say wow! It was again, written well.I was surprised at how better it was than the series despite the series already being "great". So I went to search the writer (shame on me for not doing so earlier). It was written by Gen Urobuchi. A great writer known for his dark styles. Some of his works include the anime Psycho-Pass and light-novel Fate/Zero.
He successfully brought the magical girl sub-genre into a new level.
The movie started with a battle scene with an enemy different from the series. As usual the graphic manage to give me goosebumps along with the beautiful-yet-scary-suit-to-the-theme soundtracks (forgot to mention, composed by Yuki Kajiura). The animation was better  and beautiful(as expected of Shaft). There were alot of unexpected things but things that would be realized.
Such as the development of the main character, Akemi Homura which just left me hanging there.
There were lots of explanation as well such as how exactly The New Law Of Cycle works and how witches are born and again we were shown with the behaviors of the incubator. This time around, I found Kyuubey -whom I still found cute and acceptable at the end of the series- alot creepier and he made me want to kill him with my own hands .So cruel!
That was indeed a masterpiece. The ending was hanging, endless . Well, that was something not odd because the theme this series touch was the cycle of life. It just kept on going around , hope ,despair, chasing one another.Endless. Thinking how those two middle school girls (Madoka and Homura) carry such burdens made me tired i guess because it's an endless thing. It's something I could relate in real life. Emotions are a source of something. Despair , kindness they are all related to one another.

To some people what they do are the right thing but to some it might not. So Kindness could create pain for other. Those were the concepts the magical girls and the story were made from. Magical girls as a source of energy , when they lose all hope that is.

There an addition of a character in the movie. The fighting scenes were animated well. Oh gosh! I shall salute Shaft and Aniplex for that!

Well then rating: 10/10 for the movie.

Again ClariS song is in the movie (^^ Imma fan!)

end Of Spoiler LOL

Anyway look what I did tonight, despite the fact that I am going to have an interview (yes again!) tomorrow.
